Expert Witness Testimony and Legal Case Assistance
There are times when the family-school relationship becomes contentious and issues need to be resolved in due process hearings so a student can receive FAPE. When this happens, expert witnesses are often called upon to render opinions about the appropriateness of aspects of the child’s education such as FBAs, skill assessments, IEP goals and objectives, behavioral data, academic progress, etc.
In learners with developmental disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorders, decades of research inform us of appropriate services should look like in the schools. Were assessments conducted properly? Were goals set based on the results of assessment data? Were data collected appropriately? Were decisions made based on data? Are IEP objectives showing progress? Are the learner’s behaviors decreasing?
With intensive record and data reviews leading to honest discussions about the merits of any due process case can often mean the difference between winning or losing. Schools and families have relied on Dr. Mueller to inform them of the strengths and weaknesses of FBAs, skills assessment, progress, data collection, and more.
